In 1913, Henry
Ford perfected the assembly line by using conveyor belts to move products along
the line. This change to a simple system completely revolutionized
his factory. Business owners in Detroit, Michigan, quickly reacted to
the efficiency of Ford's line by adopting similar systems in their own
factories. Today, the assembly line has been reformed from Ford's
version. It has been mechanized, wages have been increased, and safety
standards have been adjusted to maximize productivity.
